Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Communications
    • Communicate regularly with Field Managers and Field Officers
    • Contact Mostly High and Medium risk rated clinics for security update
    • Back check with Field Officers to confirm if they get security advisory
    • Prioritize High/Medium risk clinics in making contact (each clinic, particularly in Zamfara and Katsina should be called twice-weekly)
    • Special reports generated from staff members should be documented (if necessary) and inform the Security Manager
    • Confirmation of security incidents reported by staff
  • Stakeholders Communications
    • Directly contact Stakeholders like those in our security networks and community gatekeepers for security update
    • Using the clinic schedule, stakeholders should be contacted a day before clinic day
    • Special reports generated that indicate heightened risk for visiting staff should be shared with Security Manager via phone call after registering on myDay to determine if staff visit is safe or otherwise
    • Prioritize calls to High and Medium risk clinics
  • Security Incident Review
    • Review low risk reported security incidents
    • Contact staff directly to understand content of report
    • Give recommendations where necessary
    • Assign necessary actions to relevant Field Managers
  • Security report
    • Draft Security Reports and assign and confirm actions taken
  • Security Assessment
    • Assist the Security Manager and Assistant Security Manager in conducting and confirming Security Assessments of all operational clinics and LGAs through in-person visits and information
    • Conduct security assessment of facilities (hotels, training venues) and car hire vendors
  • Shadow Field Officers to clinics to understand the degree of adherence to security measures and gaps for training
  • Complement the Security Manager in training decisions and delivery
  • Perform such roles as assigned by the Assistant Security Manager, Security Manager, and Security Director in supporting expatriate visits to Nigeria
  • Incident Management
    • Assume responsibilities related to incident management by taking initial steps and reporting the same to Assistant Security Manager and Security Manager. Where an incident is critical, report directly to the Security Director.
    • As guided by the Security Manager, perform delegated duties during critical incident management.

Education and Work Experience Requirement

  • BSc or its equivalent in Social Sciences discipline ;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in a similar capacity for an NGO ;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English ;

Skills and Competencies Requirement

  • Preferably a former security force (military or paramilitary), but not most
  • Candidate must be willing to reside in Katsina, Yobe or Niger upon resumption (if successful)
  • Good organizational skills, effective time management, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize tasks
  • Sound cultural awareness and ability to work in a multicultural and multiethnic environment
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work in short periods of time and to work under pressure
  • Adaptability to the changing nature of humanitarian work and operational difficulties
  • Willingness to frequent field missions for assessments even on short notices
  • Careful attention to details
  • Critical thinker and possess problem-solving attitude
  • Skilled in conducting security assessments and context analysis
  • Passion to help others and reduce infant mortality
  • Very good communication and writing skills, English, Hausa and dialects (verbal and written)
  • Excellent responsiveness to email and phone requests
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, internet browsers, smartphones and ICT in general. Ability to use Google Doc, Google Sheet and AppSheet would be a bonus.
  • Motivation to work in a young organization that is constantly changing based on stakeholder feedback and operates with a lean structure

Language Requirement

  • Proficiency in the English Language (conversation, reading, and writing) is required
  • Knowledge of Hausa Language (conversation and reading) is required.
